Programs: e-Mentoring

e-Mentoring

During the 2005-06 school year more than 1,000 students from the Minneapolis Public Schools were connected in e-Mentoring programs with mentors from local businesses and community organizations. Great relationships develop. Caring adult mentors help students link learning to the world of work. e-Mentoring helps motivate students to succeed in school and life.

e-Mentoring is a convenient way to get students and corporate employees matched in mentoring relationships. And, the program model is flexible so teachers and business partners shape the program to fit their needs.

The e-Mentoring model is simple:

  • One student is matched with one mentor.
  • Students and mentors exchange weekly e-mail messages.
  • Face-to-face meetings provide a personal connection.
  • Teachers provide specific assignments that direct e-mail communications
  • .
  • At the completion of the program, everyone celebrates!
Successful e-Mentoring programs require the following:
  • Students and mentors must have access to computer technology necessary for sending weekly e-mail messages, and
  • School and corporate partners must be committed to creating and managing an effective program.
