Resources for Students

One Child at a Time Fund
The fund was created by a retired MPS teacher to extend her commitment to the enrichment of children’s lives. The fund provides one-time grants to cover or defray the cost of educational experiences for individual MPS students in grades K-12. Applications are accepted and reviewed throughout the year.

Scholarships for Graduating Seniors
The following scholarships are administered by Achieve!Minneapolis and publicized to high school counselors to whom application materials are sent in mid-February. For information about these scholarships, contact the scholarship coordinator/counselor at the applicable Minneapolis Public high school or Achieve!Minneapolis staff member Janet George (612-455-1548).

Dr. Jermaine Arendt Memorial Scholarship – awarded to one graduating senior from a Minneapolis Public high school who plans to study language(s) as part of post secondary plan.

Kopp Scholarship
– awarded to graduating senior from Patrick Henry High School who has been an active participant in school activities and community service projects.

NorthPoint Beverly Propes Scholarship – awarded to a graduating senior from both North Community and Patrick Henry High Schools who intend to pursue a health-related field in post secondary studies.

Viola Olson Memorial Scholarship – awarded to a graduating senior from Roosevelt High School who intends to pursue a degree in science or education.

Pearson Education Scholarship
– awarded to a graduating senior from a Minneapolis Public High School on a rotating basis. Priority consideration is given to students who have completed participation in the Step Up summer jobs work readiness training program and have used the resources of the Achieve! Career and College Center.

Teacher Federal Credit Union Scholarship – awarded to graduating seniors from four Minneapolis Public High Schools on a rotating basis.

Vern Wobig Scholarship
– awarded to a graduating senior from Patrick Henry High School who has been an active participant in school activities and community service projects.

Bergren Family Scholarship – Graduating female students from South, Southwest, Washburn and MPS alternative high schools will be eligible to apply for this renewable $1,000 scholarship.

Frank N. Borea Memorial Scholarship – A graduating senior from Henry High School who has lost a parent to cancer is eligible to apply for this scholarship not to exceed $250.

Bob Brant Memorial Scholarship –A Washburn graduate planning to study medicine or education at the University of Minnesota is eligible to apply for this $2,000 scholarship.

Arthur Colberg Memorial Scholarship – This $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a graduate of North High School who plans to pursue a degree in the communications field. Contact Kevin Barnes at KBEM (612-668-1741) for more information.

Donaldson Foundation Scholarship – This $1,000 scholarship is provided to three graduating seniors from Minneapolis Public High Schools on a rotating basis who intend to study mathematics, science, engineering and/or technology. In 2007 graduates from Washburn, Edison and MPS alternative high schools are eligible to apply.

Edison Youth Hockey Scholarship – Graduating seniors who played hockey for Edison High School or in the Edison Youth Hockey Association according to specific criteria are eligible for a $1,000 or $1,250 scholarship based on their GPA.

MPS Endowed Scholarship – A scholarship is offered to one graduating senior from each MPS high school and one graduate of an MPS alternative high school each year through the generosity of donors to this longstanding scholarship fund.

Arthur Gould Memorial Mathematics Award – A $100 award for achievement in mathematics is provided annually to a graduate of North High School.

Richard R. Green Scholarship – This fund awards two scholarships each year to a graduate of a Minneapolis Public high school on a rotating basis to assist in the pursuit of a degree in a field of public service. In 2007, graduating seniors from South and Southwest High Schools are eligible to apply.

Henry High School Alumnus Scholarship – This $1,500 scholarship is awarded annually to a graduating senior from Henry High School who will attend the University of Minnesota.

Lillian J. Lindsten Scholarship – This $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a female graduate of each MPS high school and one to a graduate of an MPS alternative high school and is renewable for one additional year.

Minneapolis Association of Administrators and Consultants (MAAC) Scholarship- This $1,000 scholarship is offered to a graduating senior from a Minneapolis Public high school on a rotating basis who intends to pursue a career in education. In 2007, Edison High School graduates are eligible to apply.

MPS School Nurses’ Scholarship – This scholarship is offered to a graduate of a Minneapolis Public high school on a rotating basis who intends to pursue a registered nursing degree.

Marilyn Fedderly Quist Scholarship – This fund provides two scholarships annually to graduates of Minneapolis Public high schools on a rotating basis: one for a student attending a four-year Minnesota college and one for a student attending a Minnesota two-year community or technical college. In 2007, Edison High School graduates are eligible to apply.
