Scholarship Opportunity for MPS Teachers
The Win Wallin Teacher Training Scholarship will award at least one grant of $2,500 this year to an MPS teacher within his or her first five years of teaching. The scholarship is intended to assist an MPS teacher in meeting professional goals of earning an advanced degree, an additional teaching license or an additional certificate. The deadline for application is Monday, May 5, 2008. Complete details can be found here .

Fund for Teachers Fellowship Awards
The fund program provides up to $5,000 to individual Minneapolis Public School teachers or $7,500 per team to pursue activities that energize and enliven the personal and professional aspects of their lives.

Fund for Teachers is a national public foundation based in Houston whose mission is to enrich the lives of schoolteachers and students by providing outstanding teachers with recognition and opportunities for summer learning and exploration. Founded by Apache Corporation Chairman Raymond Plank, the foundation’s enrichment fund is supported by individual and corporate donors. Participants are selected on the basis of how their summer activity will make the recipient a better teacher, how improved skills and capacity will be implemented in the classroom, and how improved skills or capacity will benefit students, curricula and the school. Deadline for applications is November 1 each year.

Achieve!Minneapolis is happy to announce the recipients of the 2007-08 Fund for Teacher Fellowship Awards, created by Raymond Plank, CEO of Apache Corporation, to recognize the impact teachers have on the lives of students and to encourage their sustained commitment to student achievement:

Stephanie Webster-Thomas and Hope Flanagan, Anishinabe Academy, Study of Aboriginal student population in Australia, $7,500
Morgen Wettergren And Norma Alejandro, Northrop, Planting and Reforestation Project in Chiapas, Mexico, $3,000
Lisa Lange, Barton Open, Spanish Immersion in San Miguel, Mexico, $4,000
Ellen Eiden, Brenda Beyer, Julie Van Etten, and Julie Babineau, Longfellow, Creation of a relationship-building model for autistic students and families, $7,500

Pierce Teacher Recognition Awards were created to recognize the efforts of an extraordinary elementary and secondary teacher each year with a $1,000 award. This program is administered in conjunction with the MPS Curriculum and Instruction Department.
